It is an honor and privilege to serve as Ministers of the Word or Lectors for you will deliver the Word of God and the Scriptures to the congregation. “The Word of God does not dwell in the communal reading but in the communal hearing.” You must prepare yourself before mass through silent prayer, therefore it is imperative to arrive a minimum of 15 minutes prior to the Mass.
As a lector, you are asked to read, practice and prepare for the oral reading at the lectern. Lectors must be able to practice and pronounce difficult words. At the lectern, it is essential to read in a deliberate, slow and clear voice so that the congregation can understand and contemplate the readings.
Time Commitment: A minimum of 1 1/2 hours on Sundays and preparation time.
Training Required: Diocesan training workshop and meetings with the Coordinator.
Background Screening Required: Yes
