The seven sacraments of the Catholic Church are baptism, confirmation, Eucharist, reconciliation, anointing of the sick, marriage, and holy orders. The sacraments teach, strengthen, and express faith. They are relevant to all areas and stages of life.

  • The sacrament of admission to the Catholic faith
  • The first sacrament that Catholics experience
  • The most common form is the baptism of infants

Confirmation

  • Deepens the grace received at baptism
  • Strengthens Catholics to live as Christ's followers
  • Catholics receive this sacrament only once

Eucharist

  • Also known as the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass
  • Considered the most important sacrament of Catholic life
  • Consists of blessing and consuming bread and wine

Reconciliation 

  • Also known as Confession or Penance
  • A sign of Christ's willingness to heal

Anointing of the sick Considered a rite of spiritual healing click for more information

  • Also known as Holy Matrimony
  • A public sign that one gives oneself totally to another person
  • A public statement about God

Holy orders 

  • Makes a man participate in the ministerial Priesthood of Jesus Christ
  • There are three grades of this sacrament: Deacon, Priest, and Bishop
